My Dream of a Daily Routine

Just read CS Lewis’ ideal of a normal daily routine…It inspired me.

An ideal daily routine would be to wake up by 8am, eat breakfast consisting of a boiled egg, sliced apples, a scone, grapes, a couple of strawberries and small slices of cheese with a cup of coffee and a small glass of OJ at 8:30am. At that time, I would relish in a delicious and healthy breakfast as I thoroughly enjoyed a cup of joe. By 9am, I would be in the shower. Coming out squeaky clean, I would then apply lotion and sunscreen, pull on some cozy clothes and sit down to work as my hair dried enough to blow dry quickly, straighten and pull back so that I could apply make up quickly before going right back to work. This would all fall in between 9:30am and 12:00pm. At this point, I would go outside to either ride my bike, take a walk, go to the park for a swing or even just sit on the porch to soak it all in. At 12:30pm, I would mozy on back inside to eat a monster lunch. It could be anything delightful like lunch at Panera or La Madeline. By 1:30pm, I would get back to work writing, creating, and thinking. Work would be blissful until about 3:30pm where the bliss continues with yet another cup of coffee until 4:00pm, which, by this time, another jaunt outside would be necessary. Maybe a two-block walk to downtown to enjoy the antique shops while saying a quick hello to strangers, gaining inspiration from the vintage and retro (old goods and the elderly), and finding peace and rest in it all. Around 5:00pm, I would walk back home. Around 5:30pm I would work for another hour or so before getting dressed to meet a friend or two at the quaint little pub a few blocks away or for dinner at my house or theirs…or maybe meet a friend in the city for an art show or sushi…just quality time with friends. Even better, maybe a drive to see the parents for a nice dinner and have catch up time over a puzzle or coffee (decaf) or while we watch a shared favorite tv show. By 9:00pm, I should be home. At this time, a brief workout would be sweet…Maybe some P90x or some dancing around the house. Then I would need to settle down to unwind before bed at 11:30pm. Time to unwind consists of a little TV, time with the Lord and prayer, a good book and then sleep.
